Kelsey D. Paulsen is a Long Island native, Division II lacrosse alum (Bloomsburg University) and holder of a B.S. in Business Economics & Legal Studies. After relocating to the Lowcountry, she built a career as a Senior Property & Casualty Underwriter while coaching a successful local high school women’s lacrosse program.
Kelsey Paulsen is a Mount Pleasant–based blogger and traumatic brain injury advocate whose story blends professional achievement, athletic drive, and extraordinary perseverance. After graduating college with a Bachelor of Science in Business Economics and Legal Studies, Kelsey relocated to Mount Pleasant 14 years ago and quickly distinguished herself in the insurance industry. Through dedication and sharp expertise, she rose through the ranks at Johnson & Johnson Insurance to become the youngest Senior Property and Casualty Underwriter in the company’s history.
On March 8, 2019, Kelsey’s life changed when she survived a hit-and-run pedestrian incident that caused a severe traumatic brain injury, a massive stroke, and multiple internal injuries. An athlete and lifelong go-getter, she applied the same discipline and grit from sports and underwriting to an intensive recovery—learning the patient, persistent work of relearning and rebuilding both body and identity.
Kelsey writes The Brain Diary, a candid blog that combines the science of brain healing, practical strategies for day-to-day recovery, and honest reflections on the emotional journey of TBI survivors and caregivers. She draws on her professional experience, coaching background, and personal recovery to explore resilience, mindset shifts, and actionable tools for growth.
