About The Brain Diary

About

Kelsey Paulsen is a Mount Pleasant–based blogger and traumatic brain injury advocate whose story blends professional achievement, athletic drive, and extraordinary perseverance. After graduating college with a Bachelor of Science in Business Economics and Legal Studies, Kelsey relocated to Mount Pleasant 14 years ago and quickly distinguished herself in the insurance industry. Through dedication and sharp expertise, she rose through the ranks at Johnson & Johnson Insurance to become the youngest Senior Property and Casualty Underwriter in the company’s history.

Deeply committed to her community, Kelsey has volunteered with the Lowcountry Food Bank and Habitat for Humanity, while also mentoring young athletes as a coach for the Wando High School girls’ lacrosse team. A lifelong competitor, she excelled in collegiate lacrosse and has since completed two full marathons and three half marathons.

In March 2019, Kelsey’s life took an unexpected and life-altering turn when she survived a pedestrian hit-and-run accident that resulted in a severe traumatic brain injury, a massive stroke, and multiple internal injuries. Once driven by physical endurance and high achievement, Kelsey was suddenly faced with a new challenge—one that required a different kind of strength. Her recovery journey redefined resilience, teaching her the quiet, persistent courage it takes to relearn, rebuild, and rediscover oneself.

Today, Kelsey shares her experience through her “Brain Diary” blog, where she offers an unfiltered look into the realities of traumatic brain injury recovery. Her writing explores the science of brain healing, practical strategies for navigating everyday challenges, and the emotional complexities that come with recovery. As a speaker, Kelsey brings authenticity, insight, and inspiration to audiences, empowering others to embrace resilience, redefine success, and find strength in adversity.
